Aftercare instructions

SECONDSKIN

APPLICATION

  1. Clean the tattoo with anti-bacterial soap and let air dry. Be sure to keep it clean as it dries.

  2. Cut the SecondSkin to the desired length and shape, using multiple pieces overlapped at least one inch if needed. You should account for an extra inch on each side of the tattoo to cover un-tattooed, dry skin.

  3. “Crack” the wave by bending the piece in half at the blue stripe.

  4. Expose the sticky side by peeling off the backing printed with “SecondSkin”.

  5. Smooth SecondSkin over the tattoo pushing out any air bubbles.

  6. Remove supportive clear backing by peeling from the blue “wave” and  smoothing over skin.

In the first 24 hours, there may be a build up of plasma under the SecondSkin. This is completely normal. If so, remove the bandage and repeat from step one. Ideally, wear the first piece for 24-48 hrs, the second set wear for up to 5 days.

REMOVAL

  1. Easier to remove which warm water running over the bandage. Peel up an edge or corner of SecondSkin. If this proves difficult, try applying some soap to the edges of the bandage to try and loosen up the adhesive.

  2. Slowly pull the film off. Do not pull it straight up away from the skin. Instead, pull the film back and across the skin while holding your skin taut.

You may experience some redness around the tattoo where SecondSkin™ was applied to the un-tattooed skin. This is also completely normal and may occur with any type of medical adhesive. If you do develop an adverse reaction on the tattoo, discontinue use immediately.

TRADITIONAL AFTERCARE~

  1. Keep the wrap on your arm for at least an hour to 2 hrs after getting your tattoo.

  2. Make sure to wash your hands before touching your fresh tattoo.

  3. Remove the wrap and wash tattoo thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap, rinse well and let dry for 5 mins.

  4. Apply Aquaphor or preferable aftercare ointment very thinly. Applying too much can clog the pores and cause skin irritation or rashes.

For the first 3 days repeat this process morning, afternoon and night. After the 3 days switch over to a fragrance free sensitive skin lotion and moisturize throughout the day for the next 3 weeks. If you have extremely sensitive skin, the lotion may cause breakouts. If this happens, just reduce the number of your daily lotion application.

    DO’s and DONT’s

  • Clean towels, bedding and clothes are highly recommended during the healing process.

  • Showering is fine, however,  DO NOT soak your tattoo for at least a couple of weeks. This means no swimming, baths or submerging your tattoo in water for long periods of time.

  • Avoid direct sunlight on your tattoo for at least 2 weeks and your tattoo is completely healed. After that, we advise putting on a sunblock (minimum SPF 50) on your tattoo whenever you find yourself in direct sunlight for the rest of your life. The sun will undoubtedly cause damage and compromise the longevity of your tattoo.

  • Wear loose clothing (preferably cotton) and avoid constricting accessories like bra straps and tight waistbands over a fresh tattoo. Avoid dirty, sweaty or itchy clothing as they can create healing problems.
